Gathering bright minds, warm hearts, and helping hands, we are creating a small farm that works with nature’s rhythms to nourish the people, the land, and the spirit of Ananda.
I don’t really plan on cluttering the Ananda blog with negative stories, but I stumbled upon these and thought others might like to see them. The desire to create a new culture is not a selfish one, it grows from the impact that our systems have on the less fortunate. Whatever we create is not only for us, and we should remember all the people of the world in our work.
Thank you so much for attending the Ananda Harvest event on Thursday. It was huge success. We surpassed our expectations, raising thousands of dollars and welcoming many new farmers into our community.
For those who are interested in staying involved with Ananda Harvest, there are many ways!
Become a Farmer/Volunteer: Help us build the farm from the ground up. Get a one-year membership to Ananda Ashram, free camping, and access to complementary yoga, meditation classes, and more when you come up and volunteer on the farm for only $100. You can go here to donate. Note: please select “Ananda Harvest” in the drop down menu.
Visit Ananda Ashram: Founding Farmer or not, anyone is welcome to come up to Ananda and see what it’s all about. Only an hour away from NYC, Ananda Ashram is the ultimate retreat. If you’re interested in visiting Ananda for a weekend and want to help us tend the garden and build a cabin, please leave us a comment on our blog post for weekend trips (or join the facebook group and follow the trips) and we will help get you set up.
Keep up with the Harvest: Look for us on Facebook (Ananda Harvest Group), Follow us on Twitter, See the photos on Flickr, and continue checking in (or contributing!) to our blog.
Another big thank you to all those who helped make this event possible. Sustainable Party for the awesome biodegradeable cups and dishware, Russ&Daughters and Eden&Gabby catering for amazing food, Jade and the Chen family for a beautiful venue (go here to learn more about TF Chen and his artwork at Jade’s), Johanna for beautiful posters, and Audio Piranha Group for all our sound support.
Just because you’re not digging in the dirt everyday doesn’t mean you can’t help lay the foundations for better food systems, communities and joy. That’s why inviting anyone the chance to become Founding Farmers!
Ananda Harvest is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide nourishment to the minds and bodies of all those seeking it. We’re supported by the hands and gifts of those who believe there’s a better way of living.

What happens when you get a mosquito bite? You have and allergic reaction. You swell up. The same is true for honey bees. We are all allergic to some extent, because we are sensitive to the venoms of the honey bee, mosquitos, et al. However, some people are deadly sensitive, and they need to know who they are, and take precautions.
We are a group of young, creative, and conscious, “urban farmers” who needed a place to get away, get our hands dirty and free our minds from the daily grind. We were lucky enough to find it at Ananda Ashram, a beautiful 85 acre meditation and yoga center just an hour away from NYC. We have dedicated our time, our hands and our pockets to creating the Ashram’s first garden Ananda Harvest, and it’s like our own.
We love it so much that we’re inviting a few of our closest friends to join us in the movement and help us create the next phase of the farm. We invite you to support an effort that leaves a positive impact on our world and encourages you to get out of the city.
So join us while we talk about our progress thus far and show you how you can support our mission. Since we’re trying to raise $3K that night, we’re asking for a suggested donation of $20 (or more!).
As a thank you, we’ll have delicious food prepared by Ananda’s Kitchen, local wines and music and an awesome crowd of people who will be instant friends.
Email from Dave Washburn – Chief Farming Officer – to the Harvesters.
Might be one of the best articulations of why we are all getting into this thing.

Dear friends…..
There was a beautiful celebration of our national parks on PBS tonight. The following quotes are from the narration.
“Wildness is an essential part of ourselves that our ordinary lives temp us to forget and by losing touch with that essential part of ourselves we risk losing our souls. Going into nature is how we reconnect with the core roots of our own identity , our own spirituality”
I want to thank you all from that wildest place that moves in me and always has. You all have helped me reconnect with the cultivated and my beloved uncultivated greenfriends. I will continue to stalk the wild asparagus, seek the bashful and reclusive wild ginger and rejoice with the first spring bloodroot.
Your boundless life energy inspires and nourishes me beyond description….
Welcome to the AH Blog! We hope this becomes a way to share ideas, let each other know of upcoming events/work sessions, and post progress over time.
Although this is only our temp solution – do send us your ideas for how to make this better, or just make it better! We’ll make anyone an admin if you want to run this show. E.g., we could use a calendar
After our tech team comes back from Mexico and Poland, we think we’ll pick up steam.
